Intellectual Property Litigation Paralegal

THE ROLE YOU WILL PLAY:

  • Provides paralegal support for patent litigation in federal district courts, appeals before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, and actions before the U.S. International Trade Commission and Patent Trial and Appeal Board
  • Organizes materials for all phases of discovery and trial preparation, including coordination of electronic and paper discovery, patent file histories, depositions, and transcripts
  • Organizes and maintains case materials and electronic case rooms
  • Prepares documents for Bates-numbering, redaction, duplication/scanning, and indexing
  • Categorizes and maintains files in chronological, numerical, and subject matter order to meet IP litigation team objectives
  • Coordinates with litigation support and e-discovery teams and vendors on electronic discovery and productions
  • Prepares chronologies, indices, and summaries of information and facts gleaned from discovery under attorney guidance
  • Creates and maintains internal case databases for the cataloging and retrieval of documents
  • Conducts database searches and organizes retrieved information in a coherent and concise manner
  • Utilizes library resources and conducts factual research from publicly available sources
  • Coordinates deposition logistics and assists attorneys in preparing witness files and exhibits
  • Attends depositions with attorneys to take notes, handle exhibits, and digest transcripts to summarize proceedings
  • Assists in drafting motions and briefs and creates briefing books
  • Bluebook and cite-checks, proofreads, and assembles exhibits related to filings
  • Electronically files briefs or coordinates filing with the firm's designated filing personnel
  • Coordinates service of process and courtesy copies
  • Coordinates trial logistics and liaises with trial support staff as needed
  • Organizes and tracks exhibits, files, and other supporting documents for trial
  • Assists attorneys in the courtroom by taking notes and operating courtroom presentation software
  • Assists in the preparation of witness testimony
  • Maintains a minimum annual billable hour requirement and completes time entry and related administrative duties in a timely manner

 

BACKGROUND PROFILE:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of IP litigation experience supporting patent cases, including life sciences, Hatch-Waxman, and ITC Section 337 matters
  • Experience with USPTO inter partes review and re-examination proceedings
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and standard document/case management applications, with advanced Excel skills preferred
  • Availability to work overtime as required
  • Knowledge of automated litigation support software (e.g., Concordance, Case Logistix, Relativity) preferred
  • Previous law firm experience preferred
  • Paralegal certificate preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others, including clients
  • Ability to work well under pressure
